In 1983, the very first Vintage Clothing shop on Camden High Street was opened by Julia Dollimore, owner of "Modern Age". Back then, it went under the name of "Siren" and was a favourite for New Romantics, Rockabillies, Goths and Punks as well as more than a few celebrities! Being the first store in Camden to import American vintage clothing meant that its range was as diverse as its customers. It was rare for anyone to leave without finding a treasure to take home!
25 years on, Julia is working as hard as ever to source the same unique style of clothing and still manages to surprise! The shop stocks vintage mensí and womensí wear from the 1950's to 1980's, including many unworn "dead stock" items. Modern Age is now also reproducing garments from original vintage patterns, adapting the sizes to fit today's frame, including 50ís style halter dresses and menís 1970ís style frilly shirts in bright, authentic colours and prints.
HIRE. At the back of the shop you will find original and reproduction outfits to hire for special events from the 1920's to 1980's. Dress as a flapper, gangster, Teddy Boy, hippy or New Romantic! Be Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn,Twiggy or Austin Powers for the night! Stand to attention in a military uniform or choose from our range of menís dinner wear or ladies ballgowns for a black tie event. Modern Age also provides clothing for film and theatre, so if you can't find that special outfit at the shop, please ask to make an appointment to visit our costume warehouse.
